Should you pay the extra for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Switch 2 version?
Since the Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June there have been a number of titles that have received the ‘upgrade’ treatment, allowing you to take full advantage of the new console’s power.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond shares this, offering up the chance to enjoy another Samus adventure in crispier detail.
But is it worthy of the additional cost? Or is the base Switch 1 version the smarter choice?
What improvements does the Metroid Prime 4 Switch 2 upgrade offer?
If you’ve got a Switch 2 and are looking forward to getting stuck into shooting Samus’ Arm Cannon at any enemy in sight and riding around on Vi-O-La, you’re probably weighing up whether you want to shell out for the Switch 2 upgrade.
Each version does provide the same amount of in-game content, so you’ll be technically playing identical games. However, there are some big differences in features, with the Switch 2 upgrade naturally coming out on top here.
Here is a breakdown of those differences so you’re not going in blind:
| Feature | Switch Version | Switch 2 Upgrade |
| Resolution | Up to 1080p | Up to 4k |
| Framerate | Up to 60 FPS | Up to 120 FPS |
| Graphics Options | N/A | Performance or Quality |
| Mouse Mode | N/A | Yes |
The only other factor to consider here is the cost. You can purchase the base Nintendo Switch version for a lower price and add on the Upgrade Pack for $9.99, bringing it closer to the Switch 2’s retail price.
If you’re not bothered about specifically having a Switch 2 case on your shelf next to those amiibo, we’d definitely suggest going down that route of buying the Switch 1 copy, and then grabbing the Upgrade Pack for all the benefits.
This way, you’ll get to see if the game is up to your standards and if not, just pick up the Upgrade Pack to make the experience better.
