Final Fantasy Resonance demo is out now, with progress carrying into the full game
Square Enix has dropped a free demo for Final Fantasy Resonance, giving you the chance to check out the upcoming RPG more than a month before its full release.
This was announced during the latest Sony State of Play, and the demo is available now across PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Xbox on PC, and it’s a pretty large taste of what’s to come.
Final Fantasy Resonance demo lets you carry progress into the full game
What’s fantastic is that instead of offering up a short standalone slice, the Final Fantasy Resonance demo includes the opening of the game through to the end of its first chapter, which Square Enix suggests should take somewhere in the region of three to five hours to complete.
Better still, any progress made during the demo can be transferred directly into the full game when it launches on October 22, 2026, so there’s little downside to getting started early if Resonance is already going to be a release day pick up of yours.
The State of Play trailer also contained another fairly sizeable surprise, confirming that Sephiroth will appear in Final Fantasy Resonance.
You will apparently be able to track down and challenge the incredibly iconic Final Fantasy VII villain, with defeating him unlocking a special reward. We don’t know what that reward will be just yet, but Sephiroth joins an already stacked collection of familiar faces set to feature, including Cloud, Tidus, and the Warrior of Light.
Resonance itself is based on the opening story arc of mobile RPG Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, but Square Enix stresses that this isn’t simply a port. Instead, the original story has been extensively rebuilt and refined into what it describes as a full console-quality RPG.
It’s going to be a joy to play through this one with its HD-2D graphics, and the aforementioned demo is only going to get everyone more hyped.
