The best The Legend of Zelda game has almost been fully decompiled
The Legend of Zelda catalog of games is obviously impressive with most entries into the franchise being right up there as some of the greatest adventures around. Here, though, we’ll be talking about the best of them all — and you might already know what title that is.
Yes, that’s right, it’s The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and a potential PC port is on the horizon thanks to a team decompiling the GameCube original.
We’re close to getting a Twilight Princess PC port
If you’re not familiar with decompiling, the process essentially reverse engineers the source code. This allows those with the knowhow to play around with the assets, creating things like a fully functioning native PC port, or completely new mods for games that could never really have any.
At the time of writing, the decompiling process has hit the 99.02% mark for Twilight Princess, meaning we’re at the final hurdle. With this being said, decompiling does take an absolute age, so don’t expect it to be done for a little while yet.
After the golden 100% has been hit, that aforementioned PC port can be created, but this requires some serious coding knowledge and potentially the banding together of similar-thinking minds to get the job done.
This is something that was done for Ocarina of Time, spawning the Ship of Harkinian a couple of years ago, allowing you the opportunity to play OoT in native 4K, without the need for an emulator distorting elements from the original.
What’s extremely exciting about Twilight Princess is the sheer modding potential. Since it’s a much bigger overall title than Ocarina, it has so many more models to use, potentially making for a plethora of new dungeons to be tagged onto the original experience.
I, for one, would love a few more Wolf Link adventures, maybe even beefing up its abilities with a mod or two, while also adding bosses that only Wolf Link can take on. Maybe this is wishful thinking but once that source code has been cracked, the sky is the limit!
