Action-adventure Styx series is now free on Epic Games Store

After Epic Games’ daily freebies during the festive period, we are now back to their weekly drop of free games. This week, the two Styx titles, Styx: Master of Shadows and Styx Shards of Darkness are now available to claim for free till the 22nd January.

This could be the perfect way to get back into the series ahead of the release of the next installment, Styx: Blades of Greed, on the 19th February.

In the series, you play as Styx, a 200-year-old goblin with stealth abilities. In Master of Shadows, you infiltrate the multi-layered Tower of Akenash, which reveals the truth around Styx’s origin. Styx is required to use all his stealth skills as the tower is heavily guarded by Humans and Elves as they protect the World-Tree, source of the Amber – a powerful and magical sap.

While in Shards of Darkness, Styx is required to utilise his stealth skills to “survive vast unexplored lands filled with lethal dangers to fulfill your mission.” If Styx fails to succeed, it will have huge consequences for the goblin race.

The series has received praise for the way they challenge the player’s stealth skills, with the deep thought that needs to go behind each action being refreshing for the player base in an era where games can be criticised for being too easy to progress through.

How to claim the Styx series from the Epic Games Store

With Epic Games releasing free adventure games like Paradise Killer, and point-and-click thrillers like The Darkside Detectives in the past, you are really missing out on not claiming these great deals. 

Claiming these freebies is a pretty simple process. Here’s what to do:

First, create an Epic Games Store account if you’ve not already got one. You can do that on  the Epic Games Store website or by downloading the Epic Games Store launcher from the site.

Now go to the web store or launcher and go down to Free Games.

You should see a big blue button that says Get. If it says Buy Now, you’re on the wrong page or too late for the giveaway.

Click on Get, go through with the checkout (you won’t be charged), and the game is yours to keep forever.
