Pokemon leaker suggests FireRed and LeafGreen “will return soon”
The Pokemon franchise has only been going from strength to strength in recent years, with not only the mainline series of games selling incredibly well, but also the Legends ‘spinoff’ getting another entry with Z-A, and the TCG going wild.
But, if you’re like me and are turning into dust due to old age, there’s nothing like the nostalgia feeling you get from Pokemon games of old, and with the latest rumor suggesting Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen might be on their way back, I’ll be fending off the Grim Reaper for a little longer.
Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen might get a re-release on Pokemon Day
Fans of the franchise have been asking for older Pokemon titles to be either remade or simply re-released on newer hardware for what seems like an eternity.
This only got louder when Nintendo revealed that it was going to be bringing various classic titles from systems like Game Boy to the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service, but alas, no mainline entries have been made available.
Even though it’s not the original Pokemon Red and Blue, their remakes, FireRed and LeafGreen could get another re-launch on Pokemon Day 2026.
Pokemon leaker Riddler_Khu took to X and posted “They will return soon~” with an accompanying image of the FireRed and LeafGreen box art.
While you might jump to a simple port of the Game Boy Advance titles to Nintendo Switch Online, it might not be as clear-cut as that.
Let’s face it, Nintendo likes to make as many dollar bills as possible, so selling these two games as a standalone boxed package might be the avenue it goes down.
Even though it will cost more, it could actually be beneficial if they were to be released this way, since you’re not tied into a subscription if you want to do another playthrough later down the line.
There’s no real rumored launch date, but we think that since Pokemon Day is just over two weeks away at the time of writing, it’s pretty safe to say that if these re-releases are real, we’ll be getting at least more information then, if not a shadowdrop.
