Prominent insider “would be surprised” if Witcher 3 DLC wasn’t announced at The Game Awards
A prominent gaming insider claims he “would be surprised” if there was not an announcement regarding an apparent The Witcher 3 DLC at The Game Awards ceremony this evening.
Borys Niespielak originally broke the news earlier this year, stating that Fool’s Theory, made up of former employees from the series’ developers CD Projekt Red, was in charge of making the DLC. This comes a decade after the original game was released.
And in a recent appearance on his podcast Rock i Borys, with co-host Remigiusz Maciaszek, he doubled down on his claim by stating that he “would be surprised” if an announcement was not made at the annual award ceremony, as he has received information from his “biggest source”.
If true, this will be the game’s first DLC since May 2016.
Given Niespielak’s reputation, as well as the fact that he and Fool’s Theory are both Polish, this is credible information that will excite the series’ passionate fanbase.
Why is another The Witcher 3 DLC being released so long after the initial launch?
A DLC being released for a game that launched more than a decade ago is extremely unusual, but there could be a good reason as to why.
With The Witcher 4 set to be released in 2027, the new DLC may have been produced to seduce a dormant fanbase into playing the classic once again. This future release may be aimed at increasing the buzz around the next instalment.
Could the potential DLC delay the release of The Witcher 4?
Though fans will be delighted to return to what we think is the best open-world game of all time, they may also think that this DLC may have delayed the release of The Witcher 4, but that isn’t the case.
The future title is being developed internally by CD Projekt Red, while the supposed additional content is being made by Fool’s Theory, a different development studio that is made up of former CD Projekt Red employees.
When could the reveal be?
The supposed new The Witcher 3 DLC reveal is set to take place during the annual The Game Awards ceremony on December 11th, held at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
The show is set to begin at 7:30 PM EST (12:30 AM GMT) and is free to watch on all major digital, social, and gaming platforms.
