The extraction rollercoaster that is Marathon is still going, and now that the mostly negative stuff is out of the way, we might be in a place where the game is on an upward trajectory.

With PlayStation’s State of Play, game director Joe Ziegler finally revealed more on the previously announced free weekend ahead of launch, aptly named Server Slam.

Here are the important bits you need to know.

When can you play Marathon’s Server Slam free weekend?

The preview weekend for Marathon runs from February 26 at 10 AM PT to March 2 at 10 AM PT, giving you enough time to get to grips with the core mechanics before the real adventures on Tau Ceti IV start on March 5.

This playtest is open to absolutely everyone on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, so as long as you have one of those, you’ll be good to go.

What rewards can you earn in Marathon’s Server Slam?

If you do get involved in Marathon’s Server Slam ahead of the full launch of the game, you’ll be able to pick up some pretty robust rewards.

These aren’t just a couple of fancy skins on offer; you’ll secure some real loot ready for use on your runs.

Here is the complete list of rewards you can earn from playing the Server Slam and the requirements for unlocking:

Requirement Reward Cache Contents
Complete your first mission Standard Arrival Cache Standard implants (6x)
Standard Runner shell cores (4x)
Standard weapon chip mods (6x)
Weapons: Overrun and Hardline
Reach Runner Level 10 Enhanced Arrival Cache (Green) Enhanced implants (6x)
Enhanced Runner shell cores (2x per shell, 12x total)
Enhanced weapon chip mods (4x)
Weapons: Enhanced Magnum and Enhanced Hardline
Reach Runner Level 30 Deluxe Arrival Cache (Blue) Deluxe and Enhanced implants (3x each, 6x total)
Deluxe and Enhanced Runner shell cores (1x each per shell, 12x total)
Deluxe and Enhanced weapon chip mods (2x each, 4x total)
Weapons: Deluxe Magnum and Enhanced Volley Rifle
Backpack: Deluxe Base Backpack

As you can see, if you’re willing to sacrifice as many hours as possible over the course of the weekend and reach Runner Level 30, you’ll have a huge head start on the true release date of Marathon.

To be fair, even if you just reach Level 10, you’ll at least have a leg up on most who will be going in fresh.

All in all, it’s worth dipping your toe into what Marathon has to offer if you’re a little bit curious. Bungie knows how to make shooters, ones that certainly stand the test of time, too, and it might convince you to go all in on the Collector’s Edition.
