Is the new Fable a remake or a continuation of the story?
The hype is certainly there for the new Fable game, but with Playground Games taking the mantle from Lionhead Studios, a lot of people are wondering whether it can live up to its predecessors.
Another big question is that even though it doesn’t have the number 4 added to its title, does this new Fable follow on from the events of 3, or is it a complete remake?
We’ve got the answer to that question, so you know what you’re in for if you choose to pick up the new hero-led adventure.
Is Fable 2026 a remake?
The short answer to whether Playground Games’ Fable is a remake is yes, it is a complete revamp of the franchise, ready for fans both new and old to enjoy.
If you played the previous iterations of Fable and might be worried that it won’t have the same feel as the classic titles, you can put your mind at ease.
Even though Playground Games is the new developer for the Fable name, it is very much staying faithful to what makes the games so great.
This fresh take is rooted in making your choices really matter, even going one step further with the effects of these causing not only a ruckus with the townsfolk, but also changes to Albion itself.
It’s truly open world too, potentially completing the vision that Peter Molyneux had for the franchise way back when, but couldn’t implement due to the technical limitations of the time.
As for how ‘good’ the new Fable is remains to be seen, but with the sheer number of years it has been in development, the time has certainly been put in to craft something truly special.
With the Autumn 2026 release date not too far away, we won’t have to wait too long to experience kicking chickens once again.
