Ah, GTA 6, the game that can cause a week-long discourse cycle with a single whisper and a half-baked screenshot.

The latest rumor doing the rounds claimed Rockstar could launch Grand Theft Auto 6 as digital-only, then hold physical copies back until weeks later (or even 2027) to reduce leaks ahead of release.

Take-Two has now stepped in and poured a big bucket of cold water on that idea.

Take-Two says the ‘digital’ plan isn’t happening

It’s worth initially noting where this all came from. A Polish ‘insider’ claimed that physical copies would be delayed to avoid leaks. This didn’t seem too outlandish, seeing as Rockstar is extremely cautious, but now it appears it was completely fabricated.

Speaking to Variety after the company’s latest earnings call, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked directly about the chatter surrounding a delayed disc launch. His response was short, blunt, and about as clear as it gets: “That’s not the plan.”

In other words, GTA 6 isn’t expected to skip a physical release at launch, despite how viral the rumor became.

Plans may change, as we’ve seen from the various release dates for the game, but something as integral as shipping the product isn’t likely to be messed around with.

If you prefer a box on your shelf, or you’re the kind of person who keeps every Rockstar release lined up like sacred artifacts, this is the reassurance you likely wanted.

A day-one physical version also matters for the retailers that are left out there, who won’t exactly love the idea of the biggest launch in gaming history happening without them.

GTA 6 is still targeting November 19, 2026, and marketing starts this summer

Alongside shutting down the physical release chatter, Take-Two has also continued to reaffirm GTA 6’s current release date of November 19, 2026, with marketing expected to begin in summer 2026.

So, for now, the takeaway is that when GTA 6 arrives, you should be able to grab it digitally or physically, without some weird disc delay twist.
