Free demo of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade out now on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox

Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2 players can now play a free demo of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade ahead of the full release on these platforms, scheduled for January 22, 2026.

The remake of the much-loved 1997 RPG was released on PlayStation 5 and Steam in 2021 and 2022, but is now finally coming over to the other consoles, ready for even more players to enjoy.

In the demo, you will be able to replay the game’s iconic first chapter, which still captivates fans nearly 30 years on from the original game. 

You play as Cloud Strife, a mercenary who is part of the eco-resistance group AVALANCHE. He and his group try and destroy a Mako Reactor that is powering the dystopian city of Midgar. In their fight against the shady Shinra Electric Power Company, Cloud and his comrades are thrown into a larger conflict that will decide the fate of the planet.

The game’s developer, Square Enix, has also confirmed that your progress from the demo will carry over to the full game, should you want to purchase it. 

What is the difference between the original Final Fantasy 7 and the remake?

Developers Square Enix, publishers of what we regard as one of the best adventure games of all time, Life Is Strange, state that the game has been “rebuilt from the ground up by today’s visionary creators.”
