Does Fable have multiplayer, or is it a lonesome adventure?
When you think of Fable, you naturally go to the rich world of Albion that offers you the chance to either be a person of the people or reign hell upon them.
While the first iteration of the franchise was a single player only affair, both Fable 2 and 3 allowed you to share the adventure with another through co-op play, something that a lot are wanting in the reboot.
We’ve got the lowdown on if the new Fable has multiplayer so you know if another hero can join you on your escapades.
Is Fable multiplayer or co-op?
While you might have instantly thought all mainline Fable games were single player adventures, as previously stated, you could get a bit of co-op action going.
In Fable 2, you could join another as a random henchman, and Fable 3 upgraded this allowing for your actual character to play cooperatively. This feature was good fun and opened up opportunities for even more shenanigans.
Now, in Playground Games’ reboot, sadly, we’re back to the original Fable characteristic of being a single-player only title. This was actually revealed by the devs a while ago, but it might have slipped through the net since it was done initially via Discord FAQs.
This does kind of make sense for what Playground is going for in its take on the franchise, since “all of the stuff you do” affects what Albion’s population think of you. Because there are around a thousand of these fully interactable NPCs, it would make any form of multiplayer a little awkward to implement.
This is especially true with the “choices change the world” like sparing or killing Richard Ayoade’s character, which can literally change the environment around you.
With the studio pretty much cracking seamless multiplayer in its Forza Horizon titles, if the new Fable gets a sequel, maybe co-op will be on the cards. For now, though, your hero will be roaming Albion on your own.
