Crimson Desert is an open-world lovers’ fantasy, allowing you to explore anywhere and everywhere with so much to do and a plethora of secrets to uncover.

The Elder Scrolls titles have this same effect, and also offer you the chance to customize a character, deepening the ties you have to the story since you’re invested that bit more.

Now, does Crimson Desert share the character creation feature that so many love to utilize? Let’s get that answered.

Can you create a character in Crimson Desert?

If you’ve taken a look at any of the build-up videos for Crimson Desert, you’ll know that the game does have a main protagonist known as Kliff.

However, is this a situation where there is a named character, and you can play around with their appearance? Sadly, no, that is not the case.

There is no character creation in Crimson Desert, despite the fact that the developers, Pearl Abyss, has one of the best character creators in the business incorporated into Black Desert Online.

This is likely due to the game’s vision and how Pearl Abyss wants the story to play out, with NPCs potentially commenting on Kliff’s appearance, or it changing depending on how deep you are into the story.

Maybe it’s due to technical limitations based on how large the game is already, with its dense open world and a crazy number of things to do in it, but without concrete confirmation as to why, this is all speculation.

One saving grace in all of this is that you won’t actually be stuck with Kliff throughout the entirety of the single-player affair. Instead, in the Features Overview #1 video, it has been stated that there are “two new playable characters” as you progress, which adds a little variety at least.

Whether this is a GTA 5 scenario where you switch between these for different quests, or if you can pick and choose who you want to play as when they’re unlocked, remains to be seen, but we’re sure we’ll get more details on that in due course.

Another newly announced feature is that you will be able to customize elements of these characters, such as hairstyles, tattoos, and changing outfit color. This gives a little more depth to the predetermined characters, which is a nice touch.
