Is 007 First Light multiplayer, or do you need to dust off the GoldenEye cart?
If you’re one for a bit of gaming nostalgia like I am, you will have experienced the magic of GoldenEye’s multiplayer at least once in your lifetime.
While we’re in a different era now, not requiring to use split screen and hoping someone isn’t watching your portion, being able to play a Bond game either with your friends or randoms online would still be top tier.
The question is whether IO Interactive has added in a multiplayer experience in 007 First Light or if we’re stuck with the single-player story element of the game.
Does 007 First Light have multiplayer?
Sadly, we are about to crush the hopes of battling it out for the golden gun in 007 First Light, as there is no multiplayer in the game at all.
No split screen, no online matchmaking, just your single-player playthrough where you get up to all sorts of antics as a fresh out of spy school Bond.
While this is a little sad, considering James Bond games don’t exactly come around too often, it shouldn’t surprise you too much.
At its bones, First Light is a very Hitman-like title, as you would expect, since IO Interactive is famous for making those games. That franchise isn’t synonymous with going online and getting some deathmatch going, and that is the same case here.
In fact, the developers stated that multiplayer wasn’t on the table “at all,” and instead, they wanted to “lean into [their] strengths.” This does make sense since the Hitman franchise is fantastic, not to mention everything is played in third-person, which may make things extra tricky to get right.
So yes, unfortunately, you will have to get that N64 out of the attic and play the old-fashioned away if you want to experience some classic Bond multiplayer. Or, get GoldenEye: Source on PC if you want to live in 2026.
