Having to manage resources, eliminate enemies, all while factoring in the volatility of a slot machine, sounds like a recipe for pure mayhem. That’s where the Spinny Dungeon game comes in, as the demon of the slot machine has trapped you in its dungeon, and you must keep spinning the slot machine and overcoming its challenges to set your soul free.

Before you go dungeon crawling, we’ve got all the latest Spinny Dungeon news, so you’re ready to build your deck of symbols and venture through the reels.

What is Spinny Dungeon?

Despite the Spinny Dungeon UI being fairly simple, there’s a lot to keep track of. The stats of your character are shown on the left, which are health, hunger, and mana. You can also earn coins to spend at the shop to gain abilities, replenish your health, and more. However, health and hunger stats are the most important to keep tabs on throughout your Spinny Dungeon gameplay because if you fully lose those, it’s game over. Mana is used to cast spells that have effects on enemies, such as dealing damage to them and sharpening your weapon symbols to make them more powerful against monsters.

As you spin the slot machine in the Spinny Dungeon game, you will open chests that allow you to choose one of three symbols to add to your slot machine. The Spell Book symbol, for example, grants one mana and an extra two mana for each adjacent scroll, the eggplant symbol equals plus two food, while the skull destroys itself when it appears on a reel and allows you to remove a symbol from the machine, for example. Once you get going, chests are only obtained by defeating enemies, but it does mean that you have the opportunity to loot rarer chests as you face stronger enemies containing more powerful symbols to synergize with.

Along your Spinny Dungeon roguelike journey, you’ll also get the chance to free prisoners that can appear as valuable symbols, but with tradeoffs. The Squire, for instance, doubles the damage dealt by weapons adjacent to it, but takes two food, while the Vampire gives eight food and mana, but requires you to give up five gold.

Monsters will approach you through the slot reels in the Spinny Dungeon game, and include all kinds of demonic creatures sent by the demon of the slot machine, such as skeletons, archers, bugs, and even garden gnomes. The weapon symbols that land around a monster will deal damage to it, but you can also acquire ranged attacks. With that said, you are relying on the spin of a slot machine to hit the combinations you need to defeat enemies and bank yourself those all-important resources. The game does indicate how many slot spins are left until bosses spawn in and when the shop opens, so you can choose symbols accordingly to prepare.

As you spin the slot machine and successfully survive waves of enemies that increase in power, you will unlock more spells and modifiers to combat the enemies in the ever-changing reels. Your Spinny Dungeon roguelike run ends if your health or hunger hits zero, or if a monster advances past the final slot machine reel, closest to your character.

Who is the developer of Spinny Dungeon?

The Spinny Dungeon developer is Typing Monkey. This indie developer previously released another roguelike deckbuilder in 2022 called Words Can Kill.

Words Can Kill does share some similarities with the Spinny Dungeon roguelike. In Words Can Kill, you build your roguelike deck from letter tiles and collect gear along the way, which is used to fight monsters in turn-based battles.

When will Spinny Dungeon be released?

The Spinny Dungeon release date is March 2026. A specific launch date hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s likely to be revealed in the near future.

When the full Spinny Dungeon game does release, it will be playable on PC via Steam.

Are there any other roguelike slot games?

There are other roguelike slot games that are similar to the Spinny Dungeon gambling mechanics. Slot or Not is another upcoming roguelike, where you insert weapons, shields, and healing items in a slot machine, and the outcome of a spin dictates the moves you perform to eliminate a cast of enemy fruits. Although Slot or Not requires you to deplete the health bars of your opponents while keeping tabs on your own health, Spinny Dungeon also asks you to manage attacks, food, mana, and coins, which the slot symbols represent.

Similarly, Spinny Dungeon gameplay can be compared to that of Fate Architect. In Fate Architect, you build your very own slot machine with symbols that have abilities that can be chained together and stacked. The goal in Fate Architect is to rack up enough points using your strategically crafted slot machine to reach a set score in an assigned number of spins, with the score increasing every round. Despite selecting symbols to create your own slot machine in Spinny Dungeon, this isn’t done to hit set blinds, but to survive waves of monsters.

In terms of atmosphere, Spinny Dungeon is akin to Cloverpit. Spinny Dungeon features tension through survival and a grungy feel due to its dungeon art style. However, Cloverpit emphasizes psychological horror by fostering a sense of claustrophobia and high-stakes gameplay, challenging you to pay off debts set by a mysterious captor.
