A Deep Dive into what’s to come in Deep Rock Galactic Season 6
Sharpen your pickaxes and comb your beards, because the Deep Rock Galactic Season 6 release date is closer than initially thought. It will continue the story of Season 5 Digging Deeper, which launched in June 2024, and introduce a new biome, mission type, enemies, and so much more.
We’ve got a round-up of everything announced so far for Deep Rock Galactic Season 6, but keep in mind that it’s still a work in progress and specific details are subject to change.
Plans for the development of Deep Rock Galactic have changed
Ghost Ship Games has been adamant that they weren’t going to be looking at a new season of Deep Rock Galactic until their spinoff game, Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core, went into Early Access in Q2 2026. This is because resources between both games were stretched thin until they brought in reinforcements from Invisible Walls studio.
Thanks to this collaboration, the Deep Rock Galactic Season 6 release date will now be Q1 2026. Named Relics of Hoxxes, it will be the first season of the game to be delivered by Invisible Walls, but still alongside Ghost Ship Games.
New Deep Rock Galactic Season 6 biome
The upcoming biome goes by the name of Ossuary Depths and, up until DRG Season 6, has been uncharted territory for dwarves. This area is suspected to have remained virtually undisturbed for several centuries, but life was once down there, evidenced by the fact that the place is a dust-filled boneyard. The biome mostly adopts a brown color palette, fitting with the theme of a dingy, lonely, undiscovered graveyard hidden deep in a lost world.
Of course, this Season 6 Deep Rock Galactic biome will be procedurally generated like the rest, but it will be less busy compared to some existing biomes. Early screenshots of Ossuary Depths show various column-type structures connecting the ceiling to the ground, allowing enemies to crawl down from above. There are both small and large bones in the biome, with examples being huge spinal structures and jaws with some sharp teeth still intact.
Also noticeable in the Deep Rock Galactic Season 6 biome is Morkite. It is a mineral that’s part of multiple existing primary mission objectives, such as the Mining Expedition, and in Deep Dives. A brand new primary mission objective will be introduced in Ossuary Depths, so it will be interesting to see the role Morkite plays here.
New Deep Rock Galactic Season 6 mission
The fresh mission that will be available in Ossuary Depths and every other biome goes by the name of Heavy Excavation. Just like the simplicity of the Ossuary Depths biome, this will follow a straightforward mission format, similar to the original Deep Rock Galactic game digging experiences like Mining Expedition and Egg Hunt.
In this Deep Rock Galactic Season 6 mission, your task is to excavate two dig sites and make it out alive with all of the valuable resources. You’ll need to locate and excavate deposits of a fossilized treasure, which present as colossal pieces of amber. You don’t have a tool to find them, and they don’t appear on your terrain scanner, so you’re going to have to thoroughly explore each cave.
Once you’ve found a piece of amber, your team can use your pickaxes, or a Driller can use its trusty drills to reveal more of the mineral. There will then be prompts to attach lift rocket thrusters from a pod to your newfound treasure. Upon activation, the thruster lasers will kick in and send the crystal into orbital extraction. Completing this process twice will tick the primary DRG Season 6 objective off your list, and as always, there will still be a secondary, optional mission for your team to complete if you wish to earn further bonuses.
New Deep Rock Galactic Season 6 enemies
Just because the Deep Rock Galactic developers are stripping the new area and mission back to the game’s roots doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy. The Ossuary Depths biome will be home to two new types of bugs.
The Ossiran Scrab are only small, but they aren’t to be underestimated. They tend to move in hive clusters, can fly, and have armor on their backs. They do expose vulnerable spots when flying, which is when you will find the most success taking them down. Also, there’s the Ossiran Pit Jaw that’s much larger, burrows underground, and has a deadly four-pronged jaw. If you get too close to this enemy, it will grab you, and your team must help you break free. It’s similar to the notorious Deep Rock Galactic game cave leech, but instead of descending from the ceiling, it’s in the ground.
New Deep Rock Galactic season event
Thought we were done with bugs? Deep Rock Galactic Season 6 will debut another creature known as the Bone Collector, which can be found in any biome. Unlike most Deep Rock Galactic enemies, the Bone Collector isn’t aggressive and will flee on contact. It will leave a trail, so you can track it down through the burrows it creates and into its lair, where it hides the remains it collects.
However, those remains crystallize over time, bringing about the new season resource, Ossium. You can dig for the Ossium you find in the Bone Collector’s lair, but don’t expect to be able to do so uncontested. Once you’ve cleared the tunnels and obtained the Ossium, you can deposit the new resource using Molly.
As you can see, there’s a lot for fans to look forward to as part of the Deep Rock Galactic Season 6 announcement. There will also be a new Performance Pass to kick off the season, packed with entirely free cosmetics to earn. Expect hats, facial hair, resources, and a new Diesel Driven weapon framework. However, it has been confirmed that there will be no balancing updates or perk reworks with the launch of Season 6, since a new team in Invisible Walls has jumped in to develop the game.
