Whisper in the Twilight, A

On the small moon of Hippalectryon, a prosperous colony of human settlers has long since split into warring factions: the River People, with their luminous buildings rising up over the water; the Zharatians, religious fanatics and intricate builders who erected the great city of Zhar; and the Skywatchers, dwellers of the mountains and guardians of the Mechanical Arcana. Eleven-year-old is a Skywatcher who returns from the visit to the mountains to find her village plundered, its inhabitants missing. Now alone, she must try to survive in a world ruled by violence and awaken the magic harnessed in ancient artifacts called Mechanical Arcana.
