A Jewish boy named Samuel lives in Paris during the Second World War. On July 16, 1942 the Vel’ d’Hiv Roundup takes place, and Samuel’s mother tells him to escape the city. As Samuel escapes, his mother is spotted and killed. Samuel is smuggled out to southern France and he escapes into his imagination to cope with the horrors he has witnessed. A fox tells him that if he helps her, he will be able to see his mother again.
